Enhancing the Unite! community: feedback and impact of the “Networking Hub” initiative

The Unite! Networking Hub, launched in September 2025, is redefining professional collaboration within the alliance. By hosting dedicated monthly sessions, it creates a unique space for colleagues to share expertise and discover new initiatives.

Across the nine universities of the Unite! alliance, hundreds of colleagues tackle similar questions daily: how to better engage students, how to integrate new technologies, how to strengthen community, and how to increase the societal impact of research. The potential of such a European network is enormous, but how do you actually connect with the right people? How do you move from knowing that the network exists to truly being part of it?

Launched in September 2025, the Unite! Networking Hub was created with exactly this ambition in mind: to make connections easier, more natural, and more meaningful. Once a month, on a Tuesday from 13:00 to 14:00 (CET), colleagues meet online for a lunch-time session dedicated to sharing experiences, discussing challenges, and discovering the initiatives flourishing across the alliance.

A growing community

Since its launch, more than 130 staff and faculty members have joined these sessions. What brings them there is often curiosity, and what makes them return is the quality of the exchanges. As one participant put it, it is simply encouraging to see that others are interested in the same topics and facing comparable challenges.

The themes discussed so far reflect both the diversity and the relevance of the alliance. Between October and January, sessions explored:

  • How to build stronger university communities.

  • The opportunities and limits of artificial intelligence in communication.

  • Practical approaches to engaging students in large online courses.

  • The future of quantum computing in education.

  • SekretariaNet, a networking and mentoring tool developed at TU Darmstadt.

This variety naturally attracts a diverse audience, from communication professionals to researchers and teaching staff, creating conversations that cross disciplines and perspectives.

Open to every "Uniter!"

The Networking Hub’s collaborative format makes it exceptionally accessible. Participation is open to everyone, regardless of your current involvement in a Unite! project. Any staff or faculty member from the nine Unite! universities is an "Uniter" and, as such, is invited to propose a topic they would like to share or discuss.

The Networking Hub team works closely with potential hosts to shape the session, provide support, and ensure a smooth experience. During the meeting, participants first get to know the host and each other, then engage in discussions and smaller breakout exchanges that allow for more personal interaction.

For hosts, the process is designed to be simple rather than burdening. The organizing team assists with preparation, promotion, and technical management, and can moderate the discussion if needed. This allows colleagues to focus on what matters most: sharing ideas, raising questions, and opening doors for collaboration.

Join the conversation:

More than a series of online meetings, the Unite! Networking Hub is gradually becoming a space where the alliance feels tangible. It turns the idea of a European university community into a lived experience, built through conversations, shared reflections, and new professional relationships.

Colleagues who would like to share an initiative, a challenge, or an idea that could spark collaboration are warmly invited to become hosts. Two slots remain open in this cycle on 19 May and 16 June 2026.

Your next great project might start with a conversation during one of these lunch-time sessions, with colleagues you have not yet met, but who are already working on questions close to yours.
