Mountains in a Changing World: your summer school in the Alps

Looking for a summer experience that truly stands out? The “Mountains in a Changing World” Summer School, hosted by Université Grenoble Alpes and offered through the Unite! University Alliance student catalogue, invites you to step into the Alps and experience learning in a completely new way. 

You can join a close-knit international community, where exchanging ideas, perspectives, and experiences becomes part of your everyday learning. 

Here, the mountains are not just a backdrop. They are your classroom. Throughout the programme, you will be immersed in a unique environment where natural forces that build mountain, ecosystems, and human activities constantly interact. Through seminars, case studies, and field trips, you will explore mountains as complex systems and understand why they are so sensitive to environmental change. 

You will not just learn about climate change, you will see it. From observing glaciers, snow dynamics, and water systems, to exploring alpine ecosystems, every experience connects theory with reality. Field visits, including the Lautaret Alpine Botanical Gardenand the Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Mer de Glace, will give you direct insight into how these environments are evolving. 

The multidisciplinary approach of the programme allows you to connect knowledge across fields, from mountain formation and natural hazards to sustainability challenges.  

Along the way, you will have the opportunity engage with researchers, take part in discussions and debates, and build a deeper understanding of how these environments respond to change and interact. Most importantly, you will gain a scientific understanding of these global challenges and the role you can play in addressing them as future professionals.
