EuroPassage
Join us in Grenoble on October 1, 2025, for the Mini-Symposium on Ethohydraulics and Fish Passage. Eight invited talks from science, industry, and regulatory bodies across Europe will showcase the latest research on fish behaviour and downstream passage at hydraulic structures and machines. Together, we aim to shape the future of fish protection in Europe.

The event is jointly organised by researchers from Grenoble INP and TU Darmstadt, and sponsored by the Unite! Seed Fund and ENSE³ – Graduate School of Sustainable Engineering for Energy, Water and Environment, Grenoble INP.
Despite many improvements, downstream fish migration through pumping stations, hydropower plants, and other hydraulic structures continues to pose a serious threat to biodiversity.
The European Water Framework Directive calls for an improved ecological status of waters and highlights the importance of connectivity in aquatic ecosystems. However, differences in national implementation have created a patchwork of local regulations and interpretations. Common standards are missing – especially regarding structure, methodology, and animal-free assessment methods.
The aim is to create a European forum that unites science, industry, operators, and regulatory authorities to develop definitions and methods tailored to Europe’s specific characteristics and needs.
Attendance is free of charge, but please register by email to Stefan Hoerner.
